Large waves and subsequent rip currents caused several beaches to restrict swimming this weekend. Rip currents ended the life of a Maryland man and threatened dozens more along the Outer Banks of North Carolina last week as the dangerous phenomenon pulled swimmers away from shore.

Tourists Return
Tourism traffic is up and so are vacation bookings along North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported Wednesday that hotel and real estate managers say tourists have been back this summer after financial worries led many families to cut back on vacations last year.
