In the late 1970s, Troy Simmons took his tackle to Hatteras Point in the midst of a red drum run that lured anglers by the hundreds. “It looked like the Walmart parking lot on Christmas Eve,” Simmons said. “You had to wait for somebody to get out of the way so you could throw out.”
